Dr Jodi Croft

Dr Jodi Croft is a busy Obstetrician and Gynaecologist working predominantly at Wollongong Private Hospital. She completed her medical degree at the University of Sydney, and undertook her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George Hospital in Kogarah, with a large part of her training at The Wollongong Hospital.

Jodi has a special interest in obstetrics, general gynaecology and laparoscopic surgery including hysterectomy and robotic assisted surgery; having completed her fellowship in advanced gynaecology and laparoscopic surgery with Dr Greg Robertson (Gynaecological Oncologist).

Jodi is a mother with five boys including three of her own and two stepsons. She works full time from Amélie Private with Dr Pip Gale and also sees patients in Gerringong on Friday’s. She is extremely busy with many hobbies including Pilates, Park Run, Sewing, Painting, and Swimming to mention just a few. Jodi is now operating at Nowra Private Hospital to support the South Coast where she grew up.

Dr Pip Gale

Dr Pip Gale (MBBS (Hons), FRANZCOG) is a local female Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. She graduated from University of Tasmania in 2004 and completed her fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in NSW, with most of her training completed at St George and Wollongong Hospital. She grew up in Tasmania and has lived in France, Belgium and spent a year of her training in the remote Kimberleys.

She has fifteen years experience working in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and her main interest is now Obstetrics. She works exclusively at Wollongong Private Hospital only.

Dr Gale is married with three young children. When not working, she is at the beach, exercising, reading, gardening or travelling.

Dr Zhuoran Chen

Specialties: Gynaecology and Urogynaecology 

Dr Zhuoran Chen is a Gynaecologist who underwent specialist training at St George Hospital, Sydney with rotations to Wollongong. Her passion for treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and minimally invasive surgery led her to complete her subspecialist qualifications at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital with a focus on advanced laparoscopic pelvic floor reconstruction as well as complex laparoscopic and vaginal mesh removal surgery.  As every woman is a unique individual, the skills Dr Chen brings back to Wollongong enables her to provide tailored care for women in the south coast. 

Dr Chen provides expert care for women with complex pelvic floor disorders including recurrent prolapse, incontinence, gynaecological mesh removal (for pain and other dysfunction) and urodynamic services.  She also has a special interest in reducing women’s pelvic floor dysfunction and postpartum.

When not in clinical practice, Dr Chen advocates for women’s health through teaching, research and being an active member of the community. She is a Senior lecturer at the University of NSW and is heavily involved in medical student teaching. Dr Chen is the Chair of the International Urogynaecological Association: Social Media committee, which promotes women’s health in the online platform. She also speaks fluent Mandarin and loves to paint in her spare time.

Dr Elizabeth Maxwell

Fertility Specialist and Gynaecologist

Dr Elizabeth Maxwell is a fertility specialist and gynaecologist who welcomes patients into her rooms at The Fertility Centre / IVF Australia Wollongong and is accredited to operate at Wollongong Private Hospital.

Elizabeth has worked in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2010 but has been focused on fertility since 2015. She obtained a Bachelor of Science through the University of Sydney before moving to Brisbane where she completed a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at the University of QLD. She then returned to Sydney where she worked at Royal North Shore Hospital, completing her internship and residency as well as her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training. During this time she also completed a Masters of Reproductive Medicine from the University of NSW. Elizabeth spent 6 months at the National University Hospital in Singapore completing a clinical fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and Infertility and became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2017. Elizabeth is in the very final stages of obtaining her CREI (Certificate of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility) which is the highest qualification a fertility specialist can hold in Australia. Over 4 years she has trained at Monash IVF in Melbourne and IVF Australia in Sydney in reproductive endocrinology, menopause, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology and surgery as well as all aspects of infertility and IVF. She sat and passed 2 rigorous examinations in 2020 as part of her qualification.

Elizabeth is known for her thorough and caring approach, taking time to listen to her patients’ concerns. She is passionate about helping all patients achieve their dream of becoming parents whether they are in a heterosexual or same sex relationship, or would like to become a single mother or father by choice.

Elizabeth has moved back to the beautiful Illawarra to bring up her family after falling in love with the area when she lived there in 2016. Outside of work she can usually be found down at the beach or ferrying her kids to various playgrounds on the back of her bike.

Dr Vivek Arora

Vivek is a gynaecologist and gynaecological oncologist with over 20 years of experience in treating a range of conditions affecting the female reproductive system. 

Vivek is a gynaecological cancer specialist and highly trained surgeon with vast experience in laparoscopic or keyhole surgery for gynaecological conditions and cancers of the female reproductive system.

His impressive qualifications in Gynaecological Oncology from Australia have been supplemented by international experience in Germany, the UK and India. He plays an ongoing role in national and international initiatives aimed at improving medical and surgical care for women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer. He has worked as a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist in Melbourne and Sydney and is an adjunct senior lecturer with the University of New South Wales.

His vast experience includes subspeciality training in Gynaecological Oncology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane and the Mater Hospital in Brisbane.

Vivek is known for his caring approach and ability to talk about complex issues in a manner that’s easy to understand. His priority is to put patients first and to support them on their treatment journey.

Dr Sophie Berkemeier

Dr Sophie Berkemeier studied medicine at The University of Sydney where she developed a keen interest and passion in women’s health.  Dr Sophie undertook her Fellowship training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Liverpool network (Liverpool, Campbelltown and Fairfield hospitals) and completed her training at Wollongong Hospital. She is a local of the Illawarra for over 10 years so she has an extensive understanding of the healthcare needs of the women in the Illawarra area. After finishing her training she worked as a Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Northern NSW. COVID and family made the decision to move back to the Illawarra one an easier one and she took up a part time Staff Specialist job in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the busy Campbelltown Hospital. During this Dr Sophie also started working privately in Gynaecology in the Macarthur region and has been operating at Campbelltown Private Hospital for several years.

Her professional interests include preventative health care, cervical screening and colposcopy, minimally invasive surgery (including laparoscopic hysterectomy) and the management of menstrual and vulvovaginal disorders. Dr Sophie provides women centred care which is individualised and evidence based. She also enjoys teaching and training junior doctors in her chosen field of women’s health.

Dr Sophie loves travelling, cycling, reading about medical and modern history and spending time with her 2 young daughters. She is married to a Veterinarian and hence their house is filled with misfit pets!

Dr Sophie Berkemeier

Dr Wanyu (Natasha) Luk

Dr Wanyu (Natasha) Luk is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with advanced subspecialty qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecological Ultrasound.  Her passion is early prenatal diagnosis, fetal anomalies and endometriosis ultrasound. With over a decade of experience in the field, she has been dedicated to the practice of Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2012. Dr. Luk obtained her specialist training at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney and further expanded her skills during advanced training at Wollongong Hospital in 2018.

In her pursuit of excellence, Dr. Luk underwent extensive and rigorous advanced ultrasound training at both the Fetal Medicine Unit at Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital and Sydney Ultrasound for Women (SUFW) between 2019 and 2022. Her commitment to professional development culminated in achieving Fellowship status with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as obtaining a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound. Dr. Luk attained Certificate of Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU), which is regarded as one of the highest qualifications in ultrasound in Australia.

Throughout her career, Dr. Luk has held various positions including part-time staff specialist at the FMU in RPA Hospital and part-time sonologist at SUFW. She led the Genomic department in the FMU at RPA Hospital from 2021 to 2023, actively involved in expanding the NIPT services and playing an integral role in educating GPs through monthly newsletters, as well as mentoring sonographers, registrars, and maternal-fetal fellows at RPA Hospital. She also contributed to several Fetal Cardiac and RANZCOG Ultrasound workshops held at RPA Hospital between 2019 and 2023.

Dr. Luk’s passion for her field is evident in her memberships with prestigious organizations such as the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG), the Australian Association of Obstetrical andGynaecological Ultrasonologists (AAOGU), and the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM).

With a strong interest in early prenatal diagnosis and fetal anomalies, Dr. Luk understands the emotional challenges faced by expectant parents and strives to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in prenatal screening, diagnosis, counselling, and management. Additionally, she excels in gynaecological ultrasound, particularly in the area of deep infiltrating endometriosis and gynaecological invasive procedures.Dr. Luk believes in equal access to high quality ultrasound, prenatal counselling, testing and advanced gynaecological assessments. She relocated from Sydney to Wollongong and aim to provide excellent obstetric, gynaecological and diagnostic ultrasound services to the community in the Illawarra region.
